Event Travel Plans for sustainable event managementReduce carbon for sustainable event managementBS8901 and London 2012

BS 8901:2009 Sustainable Events Management places new responsibilities on the events industry. The London 2012 "Sustainability Guidelines for Corporate and Public Events" issued by LOCOG, sets out detailed requirements for Event Organisers.

Transport and travel is recognised as one of the main contributors to an event's carbon impact. The Stilwell Partnership's Event Transport & Travel Plan aims to actively encourage visitors to travel to your site by more sustainable modes than the private car; for example, public transport, cycling, walking and car share schemes.

The Stilwell Partnership's Event Transport & Travel Plan

Carbon Impact of Travelling to an Event

The example event represented in the above graph produced over 250 tonnes of carbon. Our quantitive approach aims to substantially reduce the carbon contribution. By prioritising and targeting the largest contributors to the carbon impact, realistic targets can be set and achieved. To meet the requirements of BS8901 and London 2012 guidelines, our plan provides the events organiser with:

  • an assessment of the potential carbon impact
  • the ability to set and achieve realistic target carbon reductions
  • measures of performance against targets
