West Wales Airport Runway Extension and Widening

Project Objective:

West Wales Airport proposed a £1m runway extension and widening improvement to raise the 08 runway to Class 2C standard. The improvement will enable the airport to pursue its objective to become a centre of excellence for the development of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. The Welsh Assembly fully supported the project and funded a local road improvement to enable the extension to take place. Project Description:

TSP commissioned a geotechnical investigation to establish existing ground conditions. In addition an investigation of the existing surface water drainage and land drainage of the airport was carried out. TSP produced horizontal and vertical alignment of the runway extension and widening to Class 2C of CAP168 technical requirements. We also developed a pavement design with the client to maximise use of available on-site material. During the construction work we attended the site and witness construction progress and quality.
